General Safety Tips for Pharmacists

  • Anyone testing for flu should use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to include a face shield or goggles, gloves, and face mask (n95 mask).
  • Patients who have respiratory symptoms should ideally be moved to a triage area.
  • Perform hand hygiene with alcohol-based hand rub (or soap and water if hands are visibly soiled) before and after all patient contact, contact with potentially infectious material, and before putting on and upon removing PPE.
  • Know when your patients should be evaluated: Fever AND symptoms of lower respiratory illness; and
    • History of travel from Wuhan City, China, or
    • close contact with a person under investigation while that person was ill
