Act 246 - Mifepristone & Misoprostol as Controlled Substances

Act 246 passed in the 2024 Louisiana Legislative Session and became effective on October 1, 2024. The Act added mifepristone and misoprostol to Schedule IV of the state's Controlled Substances Act. This learning session is for pharmacists to know what to anticipate and how to reduce barriers to patients' access to Mifepristone and Misoprostol for medically necessary and legal uses, as well as how to troubleshoot issues related to access.

 

At the end o the session, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain legal changes made by Act 246 and subsequent guidance and information issued by LA Board of Pharmacy and LDH.
  2. Prepare for changes in policy and procedure for prescribing Mifepristone and Misoprostol for medically necessary and legal uses under Act 246.
  3. Implement best practices to mitigate barriers to patient access to Mifepristone and Misoprostol for medically necessary and legal use.

Meeting Platform and Tech Requirements

Webinars are hosted using Zoom Meetings.  You will receive a link via email the week prior to the meeting allowing you to “Pre-Check In.”  This will require you to check in on Zoom.  You will then receive a personal link to access after registering and one day prior to the meeting.

 

As the activities are in Zoom Meetings, we will mute participants during the presentations.  However, please note that you are not required to have a camera or microphone to participate.  If you do not have these capabilities on your device or computer, you will still be able to watch and listen (you will need internal or external speakers), and interact through the chat function.

Continuing Education Credit

The Louisiana Pharmacists Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. The activities will expire 12/31/2024.

Cancellations

Cancellations received before 7 business days prior to the activity are subject to a charge of 50% of registration fees per person. Cancellations following said date are subject to forfeiture of all registration fees.

 

Based on the number registrations, LPA reserves the right to cancel and/or reschedule this continuing education activity.  Notice of cancellation or change will be distributed 7 business days prior to the activity.

  • Pharmacist Member: $20
  • Pharmacist Non-Member: $120
  • Pharmacy Student Member: $5
  • Pharmacy Student Non-Member: $10
