Pharmacist's Role in Zika Preparedness

 

In cooperation with the Office of Public Health in the La. Dept. of Health, the Board is distributing the July 20, 2016 OPH Zika Alert to all of our licensees via this Public Health Alert.

 

On February 1, 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Zika virus a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. As frontline health care providers, pharmacists have an opportunity to assist with educating the public concerning the threat of Zika by providing resources that focus on prevention and preparedness. Please review this OPH Zika Resource Memo for more information and resources. To stay current on the latest Zika virus information and developments. please visit the CDC Zika website at www. cdc.gov/zika/index.html.

 

In the State of Louisiana, Zika is a reportable disease. To discuss a possible exposure, request laboratory testing, or report a suspected case, contact the Office of Public Health immediately at (504) 568-8313, or after hours at (800) 256-2748
