The following has been released by the American Pharmacists Association.

Across Louisiana there is cause for celebration, but also an important call to action for pharmacists and student pharmacists. As you may have heard, members of both the U.S. House and Senate recently introduced the Pharmacy and Medically Underserved Areas Enhancement Act. This bill, H.R. 592 (formerly known as H.R. 4190 – the legislative bill number changes every new Congress) and S.314 in the Senate, will provide patients in medically underserved communities with access to pharmacists’ services under Medicare Part B. But only if it passes. In order for these bills to pass, Louisiana Members of Congress need to hear from YOU, their constituent, about how important this legislation is. Even if you wrote a letter in support of H.R. 4190, this is new legislation, and we need your voice to be heard.

Ask your Members of Congress from Louisiana to recognize the value of pharmacists and our services by sending this pre-drafted letter, urging them to co-sponsor the Pharmacy and Medically Underserved Areas Enhancement Act. As you can see from this infographic, access to health care is a serious issue in Louisiana. If this bill becomes law, pharmacists – a qualified and underutilized health care provider – can help address the needs of the medically underserved in Louisiana. If you have not done so, sign up for the Pharmacists Provide Care Campaign to stay up-to-date on what’s happening in your community to support provider status legislation. Through its Pharmacists Provide Care Campaign, APhA is dedicated to promoting patient access to pharmacists’ services.

This is your chance to make a real impact on the future of pharmacy. Make a difference today.
