The following has been released by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.

Regulatory Project 2014-3 ~ Pharmacy Records
Regulatory Project 2014-4 ~ Pharmacy Compounding
Regulatory Project 2015-1 ~ Dispenser Reporting to Prescription Monitoring Program
Regulatory Project 2015-2 ~ Expiration Date of Schedule II Prescriptions

The Board continues to make progress on several regulatory projects.

  • Project 2014-3: The Board has completed the rulemaking process to amend its rules relative to pharmacy records and recordkeeping requirements.  The Final Rule was published in the November 2014 edition of the Louisiana Register; however, the effective date was delayed until January 1, 2015.
  • Project 2014-4: When the Board adopted is Emergency Rule re Pharmacy Compounding in August 2014, it also authorized the re-issuance of that Emergency Rule until such time as the Board completed the rulemaking process to publish a Final Rule.  The rulemaking process is still underway, and the Emergency Rule is scheduled to expire on December 7.  As directed by the Board, we now re-issue the Emergency Rule; it becomes effective on December 5 and will remain in effect until such time as the Board publishes a Final Rule.
  • Project 2015-1: During its November 2014 meeting, the Board authorized the promulgation of an amendment of the rules for the Prescription Monitoring Program, to shorten the deadline by which dispensers of prescriptions for controlled substances are required to report those transactions to the PMP database.  In addition, the amendment will remove the drug product tramadol from the definition of 'drug of concern', now that it has been placed in Schedule IV.  The Board has filed its Notice of Intent for this project.
  • Project 2015-2: During its November 2014 meeting, the Board also authorized the promulgation of an amendment of the rules for prescribing and dispensing Schedule II prescriptions, to shorten the expiration date of such prescriptions.  The Board has filed its Notice of Intent for this project.
